Why should you volunteer with A More Perfect Union?
Our volunteers experience the satisfaction of serving women-at-risk while reconnecting with their personal dreams and goals. As a volunteer you will build new relationships, develop team-building and leadership skills, be inspired, and have fun. You can learn new skills, and practice them with support in A More Perfect Union. These skills are transferable to career and workplace situations.
Volunteers often stay active in the organization for long periods of time. Six of the seven founding members are still actively participating in the organization, many in leadership roles.
We believe that Volunteers have the right to have:
- A quality volunteer experience - that their time and energy are well spent, well organized, and they perform meaningful work.
- A sense of accomplishment - volunteers are valued by the organization, treated with respect, thanked, and given the feeling that they would be welcomed back for future service.
- A learning environment - to learn something about the women they choose to serve, about volunteering and about themselves.
- Reliable support - necessary training and coaching to accomplish the goals of The Circle of Women program.
A More Perfect Union is committed to the growth of each volunteer. We conduct special programs during the year dedicated to strengthening the skills necessary to sustain successful, productive relationships in volunteers' lives.
What kind of volunteer do we want?
We are looking for women who are willing to share their life experiences with other women and are interested in developing their own capacity for successful relationships. Our volunteers are a diverse group of women, above the age of 18, from various social and ethnic backgrounds.
How can you participate?
We offer a variety of ways to participate based on individual interests and strengths. Participation in our program requires no special experience or advanced degrees. Once you have completed our comprehensive training, you can participate in The Circle of Women program. You can also volunteer your time and talent in areas such as graphic design, website management, media relations, new facility research, fundraising, grant writing and event planning.
What time commitment is required?
New volunteers attend both a Volunteer Orientation and Facility Training session. Each session is three hours long, held in the evening. Once a volunteer completes the training, she is prepared to participate in our program with women-at-risk and will receive continuing support of more experienced volunteers.
Women who choose to participate in The Circle of Women program commit to three hours each month over the course of five months (one series). There is email communication in between each session and support in the form of telephone conference calls. There are also other opportunities to participate, and we encourage volunteers to join in our fundraising efforts.
